Equal Opportunities and the Common Inspection Framework

common inspection framework training

Further Education college staff and WBL providers are importantly placed within the Learning and Skills sector to support employees and various learners in improving their skills and experience.

However, with recent equality legislation changes (Equality Act October 2010), meeting legal responsibilities in relation to race, gender, disability, age, sexuality and religion and belief, and demonstrating good practice can be challenging.

Equality of opportunity, community cohesion and supporting learners in their social, moral, spiritual and cultural development are at the heart of the Common Inspection Framework (CIF).

All organisations that are subject to inspection processes have to ensure that they are meeting their general, and in most cases specific, responsibilities in accordance with both equality legislation and the CIF.

Course Objectives

  • To raise awareness of the new equality Act and how this links to the CIF
  • To explore how well you are prepared to meet CIF requirements
  • To begin to develop an Action Plan for meeting the CIF and new Equality Act requirements

By the end of the session you will:

  • Have a better understanding of the your responsibilities under the new Equality Act
  • Understand Equality and Diversity CIF requirements
  • Be more aware of your achievements and the focus for your areas of improvement

The one day introductory course has been designed to encourage full participation and will be delivered in a practical way with best practice examples and case studies.

During the course participants will be able to:

  • Assess their own practice
  • Engage in case-study based discussion
  • Assess a Pre Inspection Briefing
  • Find out about new legislative changes
  • Gain insights into what good practice looks like with regard to all areas of equality, and understand how this fits with the main areas of the CIF

The benefits for a college and/or WBL provider in further developing knowledge and understanding in this area include the following

  • Heightened understanding of new legislation and how to practically implement this within your organization
  • Improved customer service
  • Mutually respectful and supportive working relations
  • Greater potential for local business growth
  • Strengthened equality and diversity policies, procedures and actions
  • Greater engagement with local communities

This course is suitable for senior staff in colleges and for work based learning providers. It will also be suitable for colleagues who have a specific brief around equality and diversity and are likely to be engaged in preparing for inspection.

Please note that his course can also be delivered on a whole-organisational basis for up to 40 members of staff.

For mixed groups of participants from several organizations, the maximum number is 20.
