Transgender Awareness Training Course

This Transgender Awareness Training Course supports staff and managers in understanding transgender and gender diverse identities, lived experiences and legal protections. Delegates explore the barriers faced by gender diverse individuals, the impact of discrimination, and practical approaches to creating respectful, inclusive environments. The course provides best practice guidance, real-life examples, case studies and structured discussion to help participants build confidence in supporting trans colleagues, students and service users. Through interactive learning, participants gain the knowledge and skills needed to meet Equality Act duties, reduce organisational barriers and promote fairness, dignity and respect for all gender diverse people.

Our training sessions are delivered by experienced Trans* trainers and tailored to your organisation’s needs. Sessions are designed to appeal to all levels of staff and management, increasing confidence, understanding and respect when interacting with transgender and gender diverse people.

Attendees are introduced to key topics explaining Trans* identities, communities, lived experiences and legal duties. Delegates are encouraged to ask questions throughout the session.

The training provides best practice guidance through audio/visual content, discussion, case studies, group activities and real-life scenarios. Feedback from previous participants shows that attendees leave far better equipped to engage with Trans* people fairly, respectfully and confidently.

Real‑World Scenarios

  • How can managers intervene effectively?
Scenario 2

A service user expresses discomfort because staff did not understand their gender identity or use appropriate language during an appointment.

Discussion prompts:

  • How can staff prepare for diverse needs?
  • What adjustments improve service delivery?
Scenario 3

A colleague discloses their transition but fears negative reactions from peers. They are unsure how to request support or what policies exist.

Discussion prompts:

  • How can organisations support disclosure?
  • What policies should be in place?

Understanding Gender Diversity in Practice

Gender diversity encompasses a wide range of identities and experiences, and organisations play a crucial role in ensuring that transgender and gender diverse people feel respected, understood and supported. Gender norms, assumptions and organisational culture can influence interactions and decision-making, often creating barriers for gender diverse individuals. Many challenges arise not from intent, but from a lack of awareness or confidence among staff. By exploring lived experiences, discussing respectful communication and examining practical adjustments, participants learn how to create environments where gender diverse people can thrive. The training emphasises listening, learning and applying inclusive practices that uphold dignity, reduce discrimination and meet legal duties under the Equality Act 2010. Small changes in language, policy and behaviour can have a significant positive impact.
