Live online Train the Trainer EDI open course developing practical skills to design, facilitate and deliver engaging and inclusive Equality, Diversity and Inclusion learning.
Great Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training does more than communicate information. It creates opportunities for people to question assumptions, explore different perspectives and consider how their behaviour and decisions affect others. This practical Train the Trainer course develops the skills and confidence needed to design and deliver engaging, inclusive and effective EDI learning.
Open courses are public Equality and Diversity UK training dates that anyone can book onto, ideal when you only need training for one or two people.
In‑house courses are private sessions delivered exclusively for a group of people from your organisation, on a date that suits you, with the option to tailor the content to your staff and setting.
This one-day interactive open course is designed for people who want to develop the skills and confidence to design, facilitate and deliver Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training.
The programme combines practical trainer-development skills with the particular considerations involved in facilitating EDI learning. Delegates explore learning theory, session design, facilitation techniques, group dynamics and ways of creating respectful and inclusive learning environments.
The course is delivered to a small group, allowing time for participation, shared learning, practical activities and constructive feedback.
Whether you are new to training or already have some experience, the course provides an opportunity to develop your approach, explore new ideas and strengthen your confidence as an EDI trainer.
This course is suitable for people who deliver, or are preparing to deliver, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training, workshops, briefings or learning activities.
It is particularly useful for:
You do not need previous experience of delivering EDI training to attend. However, a basic understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion is recommended. Existing trainers will also benefit from refreshing their skills, exploring current approaches and sharing practice with other delegates.
Delivering effective EDI learning requires more than knowing the subject or presenting a set of slides. Trainers need to engage different learners, encourage reflection, manage discussion and create an environment in which people feel able to participate.
They also need the confidence to respond when conversations become challenging or when participants bring different perspectives and experiences into the learning environment.
Encourage participation, ask effective questions and create opportunities for delegates to connect the learning with their own experiences and practice.
Recognise different experiences, communication preferences and learning needs so that participation is not limited to the most confident voices.
Use reflection, practice and constructive feedback to develop your personal facilitation style and confidence as an EDI trainer.
Effective training begins with clear learning outcomes and a well-planned session. Delegates explore how to structure learning so that activities, discussion and resources all contribute to the purpose of the course.
Develop clear aims and learning outcomes so that both trainer and participants understand what the session is intended to achieve.
Create a logical session structure with appropriate timing, pace and balance between trainer input and delegate participation.
Select exercises, discussions and learning resources that reinforce the learning outcomes and encourage meaningful participation.
People do not all learn, communicate or participate in the same way. An effective trainer considers how course design and facilitation can enable different people to engage with the learning.
The course encourages delegates to think about accessibility, communication, participation and the assumptions trainers themselves may bring into the learning environment.
Inclusive training is not about treating every participant identically. It is about recognising difference, removing unnecessary barriers and creating meaningful opportunities for people to participate and learn.
Equality, diversity and inclusion can generate questions, uncertainty, disagreement and sometimes strong reactions. Trainers therefore need the confidence to facilitate conversations rather than simply deliver information.
Delegates explore how to establish respectful expectations, encourage people to share different perspectives and respond constructively when conversations become difficult.
Listen to what participants are saying, recognise different perspectives and use questions to explore rather than immediately close down discussion.
Keep discussion purposeful, encourage participation and help delegates reflect on what different perspectives may mean for workplace practice.
Respond constructively to assumptions, inappropriate comments or discriminatory language without losing sight of the learning purpose.
The trainer's role is not to make everybody agree. It is to create conditions for respectful learning, encourage reflection and ensure that different voices can be heard without allowing discriminatory or harmful behaviour to go unchallenged.
Training groups contain different personalities, experiences and levels of confidence. Effective facilitation involves recognising what is happening within the group and responding in ways that support learning.
The course is designed to be practical and participative rather than a day of passive presentation.
Delegates take part in discussions, activities and shared learning throughout the programme, with opportunities to consider how different training approaches work in practice.
Reflection and constructive feedback help delegates identify their strengths, develop their personal delivery style and consider areas for further development.
By the end of the course, delegates should be better able to:
The course is delivered as a one-day interactive workshop using a mixture of learning methods, group exercises, discussion and practical activities.
The open course is delivered live online via Zoom.
The course runs from 9.15 am to 4.00 pm.
The course fee is £395 per delegate.
